Living in Balance

Why it is so difficult to remain in balance while living in an unstable world? The modern world we live in keeps us in a perpetual state of uncertainty and fear. These uncertainties and fears activate our primal instincts and brain function keeping our nervous system on high alert. We do not have to live this way. We can live in balance, peace, and harmony.

Did you know our primal brain is still wired for automatic self-preserving behavior patterns, which ensure the survival of our species? The primal brain is also in charge of what we often refer to as the 4 Fs--feeding, fighting, fleeing, and reproduction (well, we won’t use that other “F-word” here).

For example, when our early ancestors were trying to survive, fight, or escape; from threating animals, their primal brain would trigger the nervous system, also known as “fight-or-flight.” Hormones such as dopamine, adrenaline, and norepinephrine would be dumped into the body. These hormones gave (and still give) the body the necessary edge to make split-second lifesaving decisions.

When the human body feels that there is no longer a threat, it naturally returns to homeostasis. Adrenaline and cortisol levels drop, the heart rate and blood pressure return to baseline levels, and other systems resume their regular activities. However, when stressors are always present and we constantly feel under attack, the fight-or-flight reaction will remain activated. This is incredibly unhealthy and unsustainable in the long term.

Most of the world’s population is in an active 24/7 fight-or-flight response because of the modern society we live in. Why? Because we are saturated with man-made fear and it’s forcing our primal instincts to work against us.

Here are some examples of stressors that we think and hear about on a regular basis. How will I get out of debt and pay my bills? It costs too much to live. Will I ever find love and have children? I can’t afford that. How will I protect my family if our home is broken into? How will I feed myself and family? These are survival skills we must navigate in our modern world. Our primal brain is responding to these stimuli as threats to our survival. These messages are at the forefront of our daily lives and are keeping us in a constant state of fight-or-flight.

With the fight-or-flight active 24/7, dopamine, adrenaline, and norepinephrine will remain at unhealthy levels. If this system stays active for long periods of time, this will wreak havoc on the entire nervous system. High blood pressure, chronic stress, anxiety, disease, unhealthy coping habits, loss of sleep, paranoia, rapid heart rate, and digestion problems are all symptoms of the fight-or-flight response being active 24/7.

So how can we maintain balance? Here are several recommendations that work for many people, including myself. I invite you to balance your mind, body, and soul.

Mind

-        Stop watching the media in all forms

-        Stay out of judgment

-        Forgive your past

-        Don’t worry about the future

-        Watch your thought forms

-        Read more often

-        Spend healthy time with loved ones

-        Watch a sunrise

Body

-        Drink natural spring water

-        Daily exercise

-        Get a good night sleep

-        Yoga

Soul

-        Meditate

-        Spend time in nature

-        Have a daily spiritual practice

-        Talk to your guides (they are waiting to hear from you)

Again, we are all beautifully different. These are just recommendations that may or may not work for you. If these recommendations don’t work you, that is okay. Find what brings you balance. Find what brings you joy. Find what brings you happiness. Find what brings you fulfilment. Find what brings you peace.

The world we are living in now is incredibly unhealthy and out of balance. When your mind, body, and soul are balanced, you will be living in peace, harmony, and love. You will experience your external world as a reflection of your internal world and will be participating in healing the planet and humanity. My wish is that you understand how our natural instincts are working in modern society. Join me and live in balance, love, and harmony so we all can create a more peaceful world for ourselves, children, and grandchildren.
